In the ruthless world of gastronomy, it is generally men who wage war on each other with recipes that are each more imaginative than the next. However, some exceptions confirm the rule. This is notably the case at Bex.

Marie Robert and her partner, Arnaud Gorse, opened the Café Suisse there nine years ago. In charge of the kitchens? It’s not Arnaud, but Marie. Admittedly, the chef is only 30 years old, but she knows what she wants to do.

It is here, in this space that is at once old-fashioned, bohemian, hyper-clean and very well equipped, that the GaultMillau’s 2019 “Cook of the Year” is activated.

Marie Robert has just won two points in one go, earning her a score of 16/20, a rating that only 25 tables in French-speaking Switzerland can boast. Two points that come with a coveted title that only eleven Swiss cooks have been awarded.

The guide justifies this extraordinary promotion as follows: “At the age of 30, the chef has matured and her spontaneous cooking has gained the relevance that is characteristic of true cuisine d’auteur.
